Critics Reviews:
Guns'n'Roses at Vector Arena
"...Rose does all the characteristic moves - spinning with his mic stand, bobbing from side to side and running, faux-recklessly, across the stage. But he moves in a more considered way. He calls himself the "kinder, gentler Axl", and at one point, stops the music to ensure no one is getting crushed in the mosh. When he holds the mic skywards and gives his first "cry-eee-eyee" on Live and Let Die, he almost looks like a gospel singer..."
By Rebecca Barry, July 1, 2007 © NZ Herald

Guns N' Roses in Auckland
"...It was, of course, those classic singalong hits that got the biggest crowd reaction, and Axl didn't disappoint during two key moments. The first was when he put on his dinner jacket, sat down at a grand piano and played a thrilling version of November Rain while fireworks rained from the ceiling. The word "epic" was invented for times like this. The second was during the show's encore - a thunderous Paradise City performed just before 2am complete with more of those booming fireworks and cannons showering the crowd in red confetti..."

Critics Reviews:
Bursts of old gunner glory now and then
"...The fabulous lead guitarist Robin Finck, resplendent in shiny black tunic and Jethro Tull beard, opened the show (50 minutes late) with the hellbound riff of Welcome to the Jungle. Singer Axl Rose, his distinctive orange hair in braids, let fly with his blood-curdling screech. It's the sound of pandemonium being unleashed..."

Yumi takes on Guns 'n' Roses for The Know - Check the pics!
"...Legendary Gunners guitarist Slash has been replaced with a threefold brace of new riff-tastic heroes, who filled his shoes and then some. Though I was initially sceptical, co-lead guitarists, Robyn Finck, a veteran of Nine Inch Nails live and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal got experimental and extremely theatrical. Along with Richard Fortus of Psychedelic Furs, they all had their time in the sun, riffing for extensive periods solo, clearly keen to show they have the skills to pay the proverbial bills..."

Concert review: Guns 'n' Roses

"...Axl may be older (but aren't we all?) but he can still belt out a tune and he's still got the moves. He was joined by Rose Tattoo's Angry Anderson for a rousing cover of Tattoo's 'Nice Boys' (a song which Gunners first covered back in 1986!) for the first song of the encore..."

Guns N' Roses back in Bloom
"...even after a blistering start to the show with Welcome to the Jungle he has to prove himself to this staunch and discerning Melbourne crowd. It's only after he hits that high-high note in Sweet Child O' Mine - six songs into the set - that he gets full respect..."

Guns 'n' Roses Play First Melbourne Show In 14 Years
"...It wasn't quite the trainwreck that I have made it out to be, however. Despite every instinct in my body telling me it was awful, there is something about hearing 'Sweet Child O' Mine', 'November Rain', 'Paradise City' and 'You Could Be Mine' played really loud, with 14,000 people singing every word with you that makes this show simply worthwhile..."

"...Though the voice isn't as sharp as it used to be, the cornrows look ridiculous and Axl isn't the lanky rocker he once was, he showed on songs such as November Rain, he's still got the star quality that made GnR the biggest rock band of the `80s..."

More guns than roses
"...Debate began raging as soon as we were spat out of the Dome with one unhappy punter claiming the sensation of being forcefully blown from the building was: "the best part of the night". No doubt there will be many mixed opinions and debate will continue for years to come, but while Guns N' Roses are no longer the band they once were, musically or physically, there is no denying that in his hey day Axl Rose was one of the best rock frontmen ever. Therefore to see him live is to see a living legend in action. It's just a shame that things have to change..."

Gunners rock for Bon Scott
"...The dedication of Guns ‘N Roses gig last night to former AC/DC singer and Fremantle’s favourite son Bon Scott added just a little more enthusiasm to a pot which was already well and truly bubbling with anticipation..."

Guns N' Roses in Los Angeles
"...The other new guns seemed to be having a great time on stage and were very energetic and skilled. You could feel the cycle of the crowd feeding off the band’s energy and the band feeding off the crowd’s. The three nights were full of excitement and fun entertainment. Most everything that went wrong was taken in stride and laughed off..."

Critics Reviews:
Guns N' Roses can still heat things up
"...Pyrotechnic heat you could actually smell fired up a two-plus-hour Rose set calibrated like a Rolls engine. The pistons were a seven-piece backup band, cranked by bearded ax mechanic Robin Finck and calculated to appear even slicker by contrast with a weary and spectacularly out-of-tune Izzy Stradlin..."

New-look Guns N' Roses returns to Los Angeles
"...Like always, Rose slithered like a snake, owned every inch of the stage and hit his high notes commendably. Nine "Appetite" songs were tackled, including a raucous version of "Out Ta Get Me" and the show-stopping "Sweet Child `O Mine..."

Guns N' Roses
"...His voice is gone -- at times it either gave out on him completely, or was mixed so low it was barely audible. And he rarely stayed onstage for an entire song, running to the wings during the instrumental breaks or various band members' interminable solo showcases..."
By Steven Mirkin, Dec 19, 2006 © Variety.com

He's still the top gun
"...At Gibson he only hinted at the album, delivering three lackluster songs that may sound great on record but here were the only lulls in a sometimes-great, often-good, rarely bad set that re-established Rose as a one-of-a-kind frontman, if one who has lost his nerve a little as he's hit middle age..."

We saw a Rose, but Guns go missing
"...For all the band's skill, it was hard to feel that this was, indeed, a Guns N' Roses show: The musicians were there because Axl put them together, not because some inherent chemistry drew them together. Nor did they have the ownership of the original Gunners, who created these songs..."

Into The Future With Both Feet In The Past
"...They played a couple of new songs. And you know what? They're actually pretty good. I'm serious. They're really good. And watching the band play those, I was alright. It was new stuff from a new band I'd love to see again. Someone's got to pull Axl aside and let him know this new stuff is good and should be released. And come to think of it, I suspect that's what he's looking for. An opinion he values to let him know it's alright. Well Axl, if you're reading this....it's good..."

Axl Rose rocks like there's no tomorrow
"...This tour has been criticized for being a platform for a Guns N' Roses cover band or the same songs just 20 years later. It's not. It is a comet full of rock music blasting, expertly, through the night with fire and booms. This Guns N' Roses sent a charge so hard and strong that the energy lasted into the streets of Everett well after the show.
The old Guns N' Roses might have been one of the best rock bands ever. The new one is..."

Roses all the way

GnR a good thing for rock-loving night owls
"...For at least one concert reviewer, Guns n’ Roses also managed to clear up a long-held misconception: Turns out “November Rain,” “Patience,” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” aren’t best enjoyed while slow dancing in Junior High. The lighters, the crowd, and Axl’s on-stage antics top any butterflies you — okay ... I — may have felt in an echoey gym. That’s a very good thing..."

The Axl Effect

Perhaps it's time for Axl Rose to update some of his lyrics
"...As expected, the GNR standards -- from “Welcome to the Jungle” to “Paradise City” -- gleaned the lustiest response. The newer stuff, though, didn’t translate as well -- perhaps Rose needs to think about the fact that fans might better appreciate this otherwise unheard material if they had the chance to legally purchase “Chinese Democracy” in an actual store or online..."
By Ross Raihala, Dec 3, 2006 © St. Paul Pioneer Press

Axl comes up Roses at Target Center
"...With Minneapolis native Tommy Stinson still playing the bass spread-eagle style, the band made a solid case for the unreleased songs -- you can't really call them "new" anymore -- especially the stormy and frayed rocker "Better" and the freakish encore opener "Chinese Democracy." Best of all, those songs were where Rose's Bud really pushed himself vocally, almost as much as the real Axl did back in 1991..."

Axl Democracy
"...Still, this concert, which may very well be the last one I ever attend after twenty-some years of arena shows of all shapes, sizes, genres and qualities (though I still plan on hobbling to the occasional bar or club gig), ranked among the very best I’d ever seen..."

A polished Guns N' Roses now more brand than band
"...The singer was unfailingly gracious, and the set rolled along without a hint of trouble. Axl's "Roses" require patience
"...Guns N’ Roses could have put on a fantastic show .The crowd was ready for one They started out phenomenally and had some great moments in between, but an entire hour could have been excised from their set and fans would have probably left happier. When fans finally thought the show was over (although much of the arena had cleared out long before), Rose came back out to sing three encores, two of which were songs that most didn’t recognize..."

Guns N’ Roses: Appetite of Determination
"...the new band performed these songs to perfection as if they have been performing them for decades. The seductive power with which they were delivered to the audience was hypnotic. Something I didn’t expect to see, nor did I want to see, was a band who made this material their own and this current incarnation did just that. What the current band lacks in history they more than make up for in their resolve and willpower..."

Rockin’ the Metro Centre in the early mornin’
"...Rose’s gravel-lined voice held out until the end (there were a few moments where I had my doubts), and in fact it seemed to get stronger as the night drew on. "...We didn’t need all the solo spots that completely derailed the pacing every time Axl left the stage to change his shirt or rest his voice, but they are indeed pro players..."

Critics Reviews:
Guns N' Roses plays classics that fans can sing along with
"...To break up the full-force takes on the classics, band members flexed their musical muscles during lengthy interludes. His long, stringy brown hair falling in and out of his bearded face, Robin Finck, on guitar, paced the stage, delivering a focused, blues-drenched solo. It smoothly segued into the familiar riffs of "Sweet Child O' Mine," which got the full house rocking and singing along..."

Axl and a Revamped GN’R’s Return
"...GN’R uncorked a handful of new material slated for release on the long-in-the-making “Chinese Democracy” album. The soul-searching ballad “Madagascar” came across as the strongest of the new numbers, with “Better,” “I.R.S” and “The Blues” sounding more serviceable than revolutionary. The night’s best left-field song choice had to be GN’R’s cover of UK Subs’ “Down on The Farm,” an angry bit of punk attitude that for a moment shed the band of all its bloat..."

Do You Know Where You Are!?!?!?
"...In the end, it was a long, late night but well worth it to hear so many great songs - some of the best hard-rock and heavy metal songs ever written - performed live. Axl sounds great, even though he had technical issues. He may be showing some signs of maturity for actually working through the issues and now storming off stage and inciting a riot..."

GN’R Lineup a Thorn in Axl’s Side
"...As the band wailed through favorites from ‘‘Appetite for Destruction” - ‘‘Jungle” was quickly followed by ‘‘It’s So Easy” and ‘‘Mr. Brownstone” - cracks started to show. Rose was unhappy with the sound and complained he couldn’t hear his vocals. At this point in G N’R’s career, sound problems are inexcusable, but perhaps not surprising..."

Guns N' Roses: frustrating and exhilarating
"...The set was generous in terms of time (two hours and 15 minutes) and content (almost all the familiar hits), but it was nearly KO'd by a patchy sound mix, Rose's patchier vocals, and instrumental solos that, while impressive, brought the show to a near stop again and again..."

Guns N' Roses and Sebastian Bach in Worcester, MA
"...Worcester experienced a night of magic that I will not soon forget. Axl Rose is back in full force. Sebastian Bach re-opened the doors to 80's metal. Tonight's Guns N' Roses and Sebastian Bach performance turned back the hands of time to 1989 when metal ruled the world, and showed a whole new world of metal heads out there, how to rock in 2006..."

Critics Reviews:
A Long, Late Night with Axl Rose
"...As for material from "Chinese Democracy," the rocker "Better" was the standout, brimming with brawny hooks. The title track boasted a jaggedly appealing riff, but Rose indulged his inner Andrew Lloyd Webber on an awful ballad, "The Blues."

Critics Reviews:
"...Rose fed off the crowd’s raucousness and showed many patrons in attendance why he is still considered a captivating frontman. His aging voice cracked and strained to hit high notes in songs like “My Michelle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” but his 44-year-old frame showed no signs of fatigue as he sprinted from side-to-side of the stage to shake hands with fans, exciting those especially in the first few rows..."

"...Rose has definitely lost some vocal power to the years, which a muddy sound mix exacerbated. Where his voice used to cut right through the roar, he was often swallowed up Thursday night. But he can still hit the notes, and he can still peel paint off the back wall when he really lets go. When Rose gathered himself and screamed the chorus of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" for the last time, it was one of those hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck-stands-up moments..."

Critics Reviews:
"...At it's best, the concert was very good. It was, after all, Axl Rose up there singing some of the better songs in rock. And in the full two-hour set, he did just about all that you could ask for. At its worst, there were too many long guitar solos by guitarists are who not as good as Slash and who threw in too many silly theatrics. "Look, I can play my guitar when it's down by my ankles!"

"...In those glory days, Guns N' Roses was just about as good it got. But its hole card now is an album that might not exist, and once "Democracy" rises and falls, Guns N' Roses, which can now maintain a spooky sense of mystery, will be very likely trading the night train for the nostalgia train, whoever the hell's in it. But in the meantime, GNR still can rock your night, o
