I think BBF's arguments are ridiculous, as is the message towards "the fans". Not that I really care about whether GnR will or will not tour, but from a purely theoretical point of view, the band - NOT the management - should be the first one to know if/when they tour! Management is HIRED by the band, or by whatever other entity (record company, etc) to SERVE the band. So obvisouly reaching to the members of the band for questions is perfectly normal! THEY're the ones touring, not the fucking management.

Obivously the BAND decides whether they want to tour or not and THEN the management takes care of the details, not the other way around. It's not like GnR's management can say, "Ok Axl, time for you to tour", then Axl or Ron or whomever says, "Oh come on! I don't want to yet! Give me another month to chill" to which management replies "But you MUST tour NOW!", to which the band says "Ok (dad)".

Ron is describing the entire process as though he knows nothing about it, doesn't care about it or can't say anything because he'll "ruin" the plans! WHAT/WHOSE plans? The band's plans? The management's plans? Isn't he supposed to be part OF THE BAND? So by talking he'd basically be ruining his OWN plans - is that it? This is garbage. No real band member could possibly not give a shit about what his band is doing - at that point of time he's not really a band member, but rather an "employee" of a band (i.e. hired hand).

I'm a musician myself, and to go and tell people or "fans" that my band or my plans are made by "management" would be complete and utter bullshit. Like I said, management is hired by the band to serve them one way or another. They don't DECIDE for the band.

Gomer Pyle was one funny ass dude who posted on this site quiet a bit,(before Chinese Democracys release) The main thrust of his posts regarded Chinese Democracy and his absoloute conviction that...


(a) It didnt exist and...

(b) even if it did exist it would never see the light of day

As you are all aware by now Chinese Democracy does indeed exist and is in my own humble opinion superb.

But Gomer was certain that it was a myth and it is a great shame that he no longer posts on here anymore, but to his credit he did post an acknowledgement of his mis judgement after November 23 rd last year, lol

The point of this post is simple and it leads in nicely with what Ron says.... i.e. chill out things will happen in time....

Now to get my book and and find a nice tree...... :-)

If you love something or are passionate about something, can you not understand why, if that thing goes away for reasons unknown or that don't make sense, that some people will lash out? Especially after almost 2 decades of little activity.

No one here can declare 1 song release, 1 album release and 3 tours in various degrees of completion as being active in an 18 year time span, can they?

That's what is saddening. Obviously we love the music and the band. if we didn't we wouldn't be here. We love the band and music so much DESPITE the lack of activity. No should question anyone’s loyalty to this band because we are all still here.

Some people can tolerate the wait and other can't or get upset by the wait. It's been 18 years man with only 1 album release, gives a break, let us get upset and vent. We do it because we love GN'R and Axl and his music. If we didn't we would have really given up on this band years and years ago. Wouldn't we ALL like GN'R to be as 'publically productive' as, say Metallica? They've released albums, video, tours, a movie and on and on. That's how i want GN'R to be......productive. Do what bands do. Write, record, release and tour. I think a GN'R documentary would be absolutely brilliant and riveting. To get a real glimpse into that world would be fascinating.

But please, don't ever question my loyalty to this band because they piss me off and I vent about it. If I DIDN'T care I WOULDN'T vent.

Irving Azoff is a friggin idiot, who can't manage his own ass correctly, let alone GnR, Megadeth, Ticketmaster or what-have-you. He does nothing but rip music fans off by shelling out the best seats to shows to ticket brokers, who then charge you, the fan, 1,000 or more per seat.

It's funny how you guys get mad at Guns for lack of info! Where's the new VR singer? When are they touring? I mean you guys know they are touring so what's the problem? They will give you enough notice so you won't miss out on tickets! Axl likes November for some reason so most likely some New York dates followed by India, Japan etc... Then X-mas break for a few weeks, Rock out on New Years in Vegas or London, somethin like that. I had the opportunity to hang with Ron, Chris, Dizzy, and Frank back in '06 after a show. What a great bunch of guys. Don't blame them for being "hired hands". The fact is, they've been 'hired' to do a job and Axl is their boss. Even though we'd all love to see more stuff going on, Axl doesn't and never has operated that way. The fact that Axl is an absolute musical genius only makes me willing to wait, and wait, and wait, as long as I have to for an album, a tour, interview, whatever. It isn't how I want it to be...but really...what is?

Seriously I am not VR fan (although the 1st CD was pretty good) but VR did their thing. Freakin Axl releases an album after spending MILLIONS of someone else money and then proceeds to do nothing: and right now we MIGHT get a tour of Asia.

I hope you're right, I really do but I doubt Axl will do anything any different. These shows are softball sell outs for Axl. If things go well he might tour Europe again: The US IMO will not happen. Again I hope I am wrong

As best I can tell all you have to do to be a guitarist in GNR is play a small part on 14 songs over the course of 15 years and if you screw up your covered because there are six other guitarists on the same track. These guys just tip-toe around it. It's so damn obvious that they fear the wrath of Axl, so all the bandmates do is make innocuous statements to the press that convey nothing other than the fact that they are scared shitless of Axl.

But the whole point is: it's not about who's "right" or "wrong".

well, my friends, it's about guns n roses, a band that broke up in 1996, but axl still uses the name, so it's not anymore in any way connected to slash, duff and company..it's axl's band, and personally, i like what he did with it..definitely wouldn't wanna hear axl singing she mine of velvet revolver, or any other libertad song..contraband is cool, but not as nearly improved or original or inovative like chinese democracy is...so what's the use of making an album, or ten albums like that in a year or two?? I'd rather prefer one chinese democracy in 30 years than 10 libertads in 2 years...always quality before quantity..
axl moved on, so should you who still think a reunion is going to happen...

I listened to AFD if not daily, at least once a week for over ten years.
Even today, I can listen to it and think it's the best record ever made. USY I never listen to, nor the CD now.

Don't know, it seems that many of you are quite young.
I bought my first album in 1976, it was Sweet "Desolation Boulevard", followed by Kiss "Desstoroyer"

I was 18 years when the AFD was released. Then I was a small-town wild boy who drank a lot and took a lot of drugs and who tramped around on the roads in Europe. AFD would make a huge impression on me .

There were no hungry band who released USI, it sounds a long way. And on the CD, there were no group whatsoever.

UYI's : Estranged and an occasional "I'm in the mood for this song now".
CD: Why bother? Reminds me only of the waiting and being treated like a dog who got throwed a bone to shut up.

Some might feel this different but PLEASE don't start another world war over this but the more and more I listen to CD, the more and more I hear the 20.000 overdubs, and the "look how much technical shit I pumped in here Slash, I evolved! I told ya!!!"

Hey Split66 - yeah dude I think Ashba is a great addition to GnR. I hope he sticks around for a long time and contributes to the creation of future music for this band. And I also still listen to ChiDem regularly.

I was in Malibu, California, a couple of weeks ago on the beach near the pier and there was this young band who were having a photo shoot on the beach. Their name was 'Mavick' - I think ??? Anyway I got talking to their drummer and I asked him what kind of music they played. He replied 'Hard Rock' and so I asked what kind of bands do they like or are their influences, and the first band the guy said was Guns n Roses !!! And the dude was 17 yrs old ! I was very pleasantly surprised.
So this awesome band is definetly not forgotten.

4 out of the 8 members are talking.
Even though we all want Axl to.
Vr are planning to resume next Autumn.
Eventually they'll announce a singer.
Rightly they're taking their time.
For all we know maybe they got one.
Until then, we'll have to wait.

Havent read any of the comments above, but i just wanted to say something. This will sound really weird especially coming from me, coz i was always the first one to bitch and moan. Had a dream last night that GNR came to Adelaide and i was at the front row at the concert and was that close to Axl i could literally touch him. You know when you have one of those dreams and its hard to get it out of your head, so when i was in a shower this morning i was thinking about the whole gunners thing. This will reflect what a lot of people were saying for a while but seriously why do we all feel like Axl owes us something?? Firstly he is brilliant and we need to appriciate that we were lucky enough to hear his music and it being part of out life. If he for whatever reason doesnt want to do a tour isnt that his right? We all wanted CD out for so long now that we got (well a year ago nearly) we are all critisizing it like its our right, and it probably is but hey even the haters have to admit the brilliancy of it. CD is brilliant in every way, and those of us who are willing to really listen to it will hear the underlying message...so why cant we respect it?Yes Axl does know how to fuck things up and say the wrongest things (eg Slash being a cancer) but Slash had his time to vent and say how it was from his perspective, and for most of it Axl kept reasonably quiet, but Guns and Roses is his name, so why cant he keep it? Its his album so he can do what he wants with it, why cant we just acknowledge that and be happy with what he wants to do and what is it about gunners that all fans go completly crazy over every rumour or news that we get! The man doesnt owe us anything and i mean anything!! yes it would be soooo brilliant to see him again on that stage and doing it for us, but fuck man would you seriously do it if your every move is being watched and attacked...he cant get it right either way...I'd say fuck you too!!
and yes i do realise that im probably get my head chewed off for this but fuck it....I love Axl, gunners (new and old) and I'd feel very happy and privilidged if i got another chance to see them live. Alice Cooper Wonders Where the Balls Have Gone in Rock 'n' Roll

If you're going to talk smack about someone else, you better be able to back it up. Well, when Alice Cooper asks Noisecreep, "Are all American bands metro-sexual now?" dude can back that s--- up. One of rock's living legends, Cooper has had it with the lack of real men in rock. "I heard the title Vampire Weekend and I thought, 'Oh, man, that's gonna be great. I gotta see it,'" he says. "And there are these guys with little Gap T-shirts on and I'm going, 'What happened to the balls in rock 'n' roll? Why are American bands so wimpy?'"

Who does earn his hard rock seal of approval? "The Foo Fighters get up there and they rock, they know how to rock. Green Day rocks, they get up there and they have energy," he says. "I am worried that a lot of the newer bands that are coming out are depending too much on keyboards and being sensitive. Maybe I'm just not sensitive anymore. I like to hear a band be stupid and drunk. I wish I could see more bands like that were like early Guns N' Roses, early Aerosmith, just snotty rock 'n' roll bands."

Along with his very entertaining look at today's music scene, Cooper filled Noisecreep in on his new tour, the best way to kill Alice and why it's only a matter of time before we see his music on Broadway.

What can you tell us about the upcoming tour?

It's a brand-new show. Everybody's got to remember a million new parts, new theatrics. They kill me four times in the show, so if I'm in the wrong place I get stitches.

So you get killed four times?

It's a four-part show, sort of like four different faces of Alice, and at the end of each part we have to execute him to get to the next part. The guy that directed it is the guy that directed 'Beauty and the Beast' on Broadway, so it's really pretty elaborate. The lyrics of the songs tell the whole story. We really depended this year on the lyrics to pull you through every segment and all the songs. We've never done that before, but I really like the idea. It's like taking those songs and doing something different with them.

That brings up a good point. You were doing concept albums in the '70s, and it seems like a natural for there to be an Alice Cooper musical on Broadway show. Will we ever see that?

I can't imagine there not being one. There's already been talk of 'Welcome to My Nightmare' on Broadway, 'cause when we did that it was basically a Broadway show. The director was from 'West Side Story,' everybody involved in the show was from some sort of legitimate theater. And then we just all put it all to Alice Cooper insane rock 'n' roll and Alice's insane concept of what theater was supposed to be. And it turned into something that nobody had ever seen before.

How would Alice Cooper on Broadway top the tours?

First of all, I would love to see something about Alice, the story is great. From Phoenix to the alcoholism, the fact that Alice is married successfully for 33 years, there's so many things that contradict each other. And after 40 years the band that all the critics said would last two weeks, I'm still here and I'm still selling out the place. So my idea of add a little Busby Berkeley, throw a little Bela Lugosi in there and terrify the audience, but make them laugh at the same time and don't give up the rock 'n' roll has worked for 40 years. And create a character that people actually really like. When I started Alice, there was no consummate villain in rock.

There were a lot of heroes, but no villains, a lot of Peter Pans and no Captain Hook. And I went, "Well, I'll gladly be Captain Hook." Forty years later, I'm still the premiere villain in rock. So whatever it is the audience liked, they liked the idea that it's funny and it is scary and it's a lot of different things.

Obviously for the Broadway show, you envision the music would still all be Alice.

Oh absolutely. The nice thing is the music is built in. If somebody were gonna say, "Let's write a bunch of songs for an Alice play, I'd go, 'They're written.'" In fact, they're not just written, they're hits already. I can go back for 40 years and give you 15 top 10 hits that are already proven. So in a lot of ways it's like Billy Joel or Abba or the Who that went to Broadway. You've already got these songs, so it's sort of a slam dunk. All you gotta do is do something really interesting on Broadway and really make it interesting.

What would be the three songs that absolutely have to be in the play?

Well, 'Ballad of Dwight Fry' because it really was the most theatrical song. You're writing a song about a guy that's in the original 'Frankenstein' and the original 'Dracula' and never got any due. He was the character that played Fritz and Renfield, the creepy little character. I do it in a straitjacket under a cold blue light and the audience feels very claustrophobic. I just think 'Ballad of Dwight Fry' may be the best example of a theatrical song for Alice. 'Only Women Bleed' is another one, it's a song that's pretty, it was a hit. When we first did it, the audience actually thought it was James Taylor, not the audience, but the record company. They had no idea it was Alice Cooper.

But it's a very dark song that ends up being almost a feminist anthem. It was a brutal ballet and it was saying men bleed physically, women bleed emotionally and that was the point I was trying to get across. The title made everybody think I was trying to get away with some sort of menstrual joke, and it ended up being covered by 12 different women.

What's your favorite version from the 12 different women who covered it?

When you take a song like that and you put Tina Turner behind it, she's gonna bleed all over that song. And Etta James did it, too. Those are versions I could never do because they're not even singing from their heart, they're singing from their groin on that. It's coming out guttural, women that have been beaten, women that have bled. So they heard that song and all of a sudden they were taking it literally and I was going, "Wow, I can't put that much soul into that song."

Another song you'd have to have is 'Welcome to my Nightmare' because that just pretty much says what Alice Cooper is. It's some kind of strange, dark, funny vaudeville. And that's all I ever wanted it to be. I always like the idea of vaudeville, horror and comedy all in bed together. And we've never backed down on the rock 'n' roll. I insist on it being loud, I insist on it being 95 percent rock and about five percent ballads. You're never gonna find me turning things down.

Of the four ways Alice gets killed, what's the best way to kill Alice?

I kind of go to my fears and infest them on stage. The worst thing that could ever happen to me is not snakes and spiders, it would be needles. And of course we have a giant hypodermic needle at the end of 'Poison.' And then another one is being claustrophobic, it's putting me in a box and running spikes through it. And it's a great trick. But you have to do this all to music and make sure that it all makes sense somehow. That's why sometimes I have to bring in somebody like a director from Broadway saying, "Here's all the stuff, here's my idea for the stuff, make it come to life." I haven't got the patience to sit there and go, "Okay, we need to rehearse this, this, this and this."

Who are some of the young musicians you admire?

There are some very inventive people. Jack White is incredible, because he goes against all the rules. He makes records that really are kind of sloppy and yet his voice and his guitar make it work. Everything that guy does is catchy. I am very encouraged that a lot of bands sound like they're going back to the garage and they're not depending on high-tech crap to be their music. But two guitars, bass, drums, and a lead singer, to me that's rock 'n' roll.

I do get a little annoyed that it seems like a lot of bands that come out now that I read, "The greatest band that I've ever heard." And I see them and I go, "There's absolutely no testosterone in this band." I heard the title Vampire Weekend and I thought, "Oh, man, that's gonna be great. I gotta see it." And there are these guys with little Gap T-shirts on and they're singing about I don't know what, it was so light I couldn't listen to it. And I'm going, "What happened to the balls in rock 'n' roll? Why are American bands so wimpy?"

I'm getting a lot of bands that are kind of going, "Oh, the summer in the rain and aren't lightning bugs wonderful?" And I'm going, "What kind of drug are you on?" I think if you asked Ozzy, Iggy and all the other people that come from our generation, we're kind of hoping the young guys step it up a little bit when it comes to being guys.

AC/DC huh? Lucky you - I should have planned my USA trip better. Missed ACDC playing where I was staying at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas by just a few weeks unfortunately.

It was the story of my holiday - missed BucketHead (and Alice in Chains) in Cleveland by about a week, missed Motorhead in Anaheim by a few days, Chris Cornell and Korn in Hollywood, believe me the list goes on :( I was even hoping to see Les Paul play at his little Jazz bar in New York City and he died like the day just before I get there ... Anyway, thats life.

There Was a Time is still the best though.

I love listening to music in my car, but Chinese Democracy should be listen to on headphones at high volume--there's so much in every song.

Oh My God: 10 Years and 14 Songs Later ...


Today marks the 10th anniversary of the release of "Oh My God," the first single of the Chinese Democracy / New Guns era.

10 years later, and what have we got? A few short tours. One album. A whole lot of empty promises. Dozens of missed opportunities, and a handful of scapegoats: Slash, Jimmy Iovine, Buckethead, and Merck Mercuriadis (to name a few).

10 wasted years.

That's my opinion. What do you think? How would you rate Axl's performance as Captain of the Guns N' Roses ship?

September 22nd, 1999

So here's the story behind this music

The chorus: OH MY GOD etc. deals with the societal repression of deep and often agonizing emotions - some of which may be willingly accepted for one reason or another - the appropriate expression of which (one that promotes a healing, release and a positive resolve) is often discouraged and many times denied. Emotionally the song contemplates several abstract perspectives drawing from personal expression as well as from the film (End Of Days) and its metaphors. The appropriate expression and vehicle for such emotions and concepts is not something taken for granted.

Musically the song was primarily written by Paul Huge over two years ago, with Dizzy Reed writing the musical hook of the chorus.

Former member Duff McKagan as well as former employee Matt Sorum failed to see its potential and showed no interest in exploring, let alone recording the piece.

When the demos were played for the new band, Josh, Tommy and Robin were as they say 'all over it.'

Once the opportunity was presented, the song was given priority in our recording process. As the verse, performance and lyrics were decided on, for us (that especially includes Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine) the choice became obvious. We were more than pleased Mr. Roswell (the film's music supervisor) agreed! Our thanks to Arnold and all for the consideration - it is an association in which we have always felt honored.

Paul Huge, Gary Sunshine and Dave Navarro appear on the song as well as Robin Finck. Robin's part was written by Paul and extensively manipulated by our producer, Sean Beaven. Robin was not involved in the writing of the final recording though did participate in the arrangement. All lyrics were written by myself.

Additional programming (jack boots, screeching tires, etc.) was by Stuart White.

The fight of good vs. evil, positive vs. negative, man against a seemingly undefeatable, undeterrable, unrevealed destiny, along with the personal and universal struggle to attain, maintain and responsibly manage freewill can be and often is frustrating to say the least. In America our country's constitutional right to freedom of expression gives us a better chance to fight for that expression than many in other countries enjoy. It can be a big gig, like kickin' the crap outta the devil!

I think the really disappointing thing to me is that it seems there is not all this "new" music. The sames songs were tweaked and tweaked over the years and sound pretty much the same now as they did when played live at RIR3.

Oh My God is a great song, even though it's much more industrial than rock, which is why so many people dismissed it.

The lyrics, I think, are great because of the syntax and themes of fate, free-will, repression, opression, expression, destruction and the individual versus society.

I hope the next album has some more heavier songs like this on it because Chinese Democracy's heavie song weren't as intense or as groovy as Oh My God.

While I like Shackler's Revenge, I think it could have been much better--longer, more complex, more lyrics. I think it could have been a great song like Coma, but despite being good, it could have been much better.

CD is a flop. Artistically, creatively and commerically. It sounds like a mish mash of the last fifteen years, tweaked and over produced. The live version of Madagascar and the Blues (SOD) I heard live in 2002 was equal if not better.

Many of Axl's fans, like Axl himself are sensitive to criticism and seem to live in an alternate universe. If you are frustrated that Axl has destroyed GNR, don't blame me! In Axl's words, Blame Canada!

But seriously, I've basically given up on GNR. If Axl really does go on tour in 2009 I'll certainly be there, but as I've said before, I've seen AC/DC twice in twelve months and every person who left the stadium left with a big smile on their face. They rocked. None of the bullspit that Axl brings.

Yup, I know and I will remember that. And this band "that we all know" should change name. Ok.

I had an opportunity to see VR twice (of course before they split up with) live on stage and how they played "Mr Brownstone", "It's so easy" and "Paradise City". Told you what team, after so many years old-gunners hadn't lost this magic chemistry. It's unbeliveable. They are still better than new mates. I didn't talk much about it, coz most of you don't like Scott Weiland. They've got appetite for destruction and are in need - still looking for vocalist haha... my frustration is still growing up too.

No matter what Axl Rose will do with his NuGnR (they are not so good as Slash&Co.) I will say my favourite sentence:

WE need reunion like oxygen to breath and live!!!

I saw VR in 2005, the biggest pop they got was for Mr. Brownstone. Slash and Duff still have it. All in all they were ok, Weiland was a decent frontman, but they were less of a "band" and more of a supergroup pasted together. I always though Fall to Pieces should have been a bigger him. The guitar piece and solo was very old GNR Slash.

Hard to believe, but Slash may never get to play his solos from November Rain, Rocket Queen, Coma, Estranged, or Don't Cry, live before a major crowd, ever again. I know Izzy had tears in his eyes when he hit the stage in NY in 2006, and Slash commented on how it felt to play SCOM for some guitar semiar or something.

When Guns N'Roses came to Holland Nijmegen at the Goffertpark and later in the show Izzy came on and stood there with a very well for two hours singing Axl Rose he had some tears in his eyes to and there was a look between Axl and Izzy that said it all..........

You can never please everyone, going platinium is pretty impressive these days. I think if GNR tours the album will sell better, in my opinion the album is solid. I am so sick of people bashing the new GNR, who never even listened to CD. I hope the band tours in December and eventually tours in the US. It a shame that AXL never released the video for Better, but the album is really good and I listen to it almost every day. Lets see what happens wiith the tour but for now enjoy the album! Good to see alll the post from Fake pat, brandon, etc who have kept the faith. Long live GNR! and to the haters why dont you just......................................................

Look people, i can so understand why it would be frustrating waiting, BUT try to have some faith. Fuck man i'd be the first to say that id be really and i mean really devastated if i never see gunners again (old or new) but will i survive it YES!!! Those of you who say that CD is crap, then try listening to it few more times and try to get it... but for some people its just not natural thing to get it, which is OK. I wonder if people remember what happened to Appetite in the 1st year, didnt take off much (i dont remember it coz i was 5 but hey i know about it), and the same thing might happen to CD. I honestly think that it was released for certain people (Axl's reasons) and not for everyone to get!Its not Appetite but neither is UYI1 and 2, but i swear it would be so stupid if they released another album where they talk about drug addiction, when Axl doesnt allow himself to be an addict (now i mean)...get with the times and dont be hypocrits (is that how u spell it...dont look right). Lana, I'm not sure how many times the Appetite/CD analogy has been refuted. When Appetite was released in 1987, it did not explode, initially. Guns N' Roses were relatively unknown outside the die hard tape passing crowd. Chinese Democracy was the most anticipated, most hyped, most expensive album of all time. Rolling Stone wrote an article about it in 2000. CD broke up Guns. It was supposed to be huge, Axl's magnum opus. For years he promised this epic album. It obviously did not live up to expectations.

So to compare the slow start of CD with Appetite ignores all the relevant facts. One was from an unknown, the other was from the formerly biggest band in the world with most famous front man.

Regardless of the merits of CD, I think we should end the silly comparison.

Estranged yes you are right, but you know how many younger people don't know who gunners are...there is a whole new audience out there that might hear about them if Axl does a tour or some promotion. As for CD being so hyped up, except for the die hard fans in Ozzie no one even knew that it was happening. I had people in front of me at the Gunners concert in 2007 that didnt even know that they broke up. So in regards to my 'silly comparison' there is still a chance that CD will take off, maybe not in USA but possibly elsewhere. As we all know USA came up with Britney Spears and Miley Cirus so there is not much hope left there for quality music...

Lana, young people into rock music know exactly who GNR is: They may not own Chin Dem because they simply do not care about it. Personally I like Chin Dem... I listened to it in my car again while traveling the other day and it is a really good album. People knew/ know about Chin Dem. The fact is Axl waited too long, cancelled too many tours and shows, made too many empty promises and people lost interest. Hell Estranged just posted a link to a RS article that was written in 2000: Axl missed his opportunity to make this band be viewed as GNR he releases Chin Dem in 1999 and another album in 2008 with a few tours sprinkled in and he has officially reinvented GNR. BUT he did not do that: Which was his right to do

As for the AFD comparison: I agree w/ Estranged there is no comparison. First of all AFD may have been a late bloomer by a new band, but it was promoted like crazy. Even Axl said while on the Eddie Trunk show in 2006 they kept forcing Jungle down radio stations throats to get them to play it. See the difference a heavily promoted new album by a new band compared with a highly anticipated album by a WELL_KNOWN band w/ zero promo? Seriously would AFD sold anything if Axl would have taken the same route he has w/ Chin Dem???? Of course not: and honestly Chin Dem has sold pretty well because so many people simply knew about it

As for the US having no hope for quality of music. Well again we are all on a GNR site (which is a rock band) and you throw out Miley and Britney??? Again a comparison that has no merit. I am sure the pop fans wherever you live are just as enthralled w/ Britney and Miley as the US fans. I'm sure the majority of the bands you like or are a fan of come from this place you say has no hope for good quality music. Wow well wait a minute the man and band and album you are defending right now come for the good ole USA! So since Axl is American and lives in the US does he have not hope for quality music?

Axl sometimes can be a neo-maxi-zoom-dweepy, but also the so called press and reporters, of which some are true A-holes, play a role in the depiction of Axl and Co. But.....the man makes damn good music if he wants to. We do not want to know him personally and he probably doesn't want to really know us. Just as long as he and his current band members bring out a few more albums and maybe a tour, that's fine by us.

Chris "You" - the interesting post. However, could it not be argued that CD was promoted with the new media. The album was released exclusively to Best Buy. The songs were released on iTunes. The songs were available on Guitar Hero and Rock Band. And still the album didn't move.

I'm not certain a tour would move more copies. About half the crowd would be fans who just come to hear SWOM and NR. I remember in 2002 half the crowd didn't know Buckethead wasn't Slash.

It just might be CD isn't a hit like past albums. More in line with the Spaghetti Incident or the Live 87-93 albums.

A "hit" is subjective though. The sales tally is 5 million plus copies sold. I think that's considered a commercial success in todays music stealing environment.

However that 5 million+ sales is calculated is a moot point (be it cash register sales or best buy sales or a combo of both) because a sale is a sale.

CT - agree, its all subjective. We also have to look at sales of past GNR albums, and sales of contemporary albums. Not to beat a dead horse, but that 5 million is worldwide, not in the US. I think AC/DC's latest sold quite a few more.

Anyone have a source for records sales? I did some googling but damned if I can find reliable figures.

Thanks CT, here is the problem. Wikipedia says 5.3 million. Then when you look at the source, it is not supported. That is the problem with the footnotes on Wikipedia. You can claim a source, but futher investigation does not verify the claim. I could edit the page, put the number at 10 million, cite it to a Rolling Stone article that doesn't justify my position and nobody would be the wiser.

Wow you guys take your stuff really seriously, researching it and stuff, maybe you need to find better things to do with your time...no offence! No one really gives a shit, those who enjoy CD will buy it and listen to it those who don't simply won't who gives a shit about how much of it is sold. My entire point was that there are people that don't know who gunners are...i work with young people in Australia until the age of 25 (most of them are 15-16) and they know who Good Charlotte is but not Gunners, and i can gurantee you that. and Chris 'you' my jab wasnt at you or Americans it is about the whole fucken world whose princess is Paris Hilton. Most good band come from there in the past and the UK but dude seriously get a fucken grip and dont feel so offended coz i told the truth. Yes its a rock website and i was talking about Australia, about promotion not the US...there is one shopping centre in Adelaide that had the poster of CD, the rest just didnt give a shit!The reason why Appetite took off was because of tours and people got to know who they are...and i still press my fucken point that if there is a promotion and tours the way that it happened with UYI1 and 2 and Appetite the whole thing could take off once again! Lana: I like you am excited that GNR may be touring: I really hope they do. I think Axl makes GREAT music and am a fan of Chin Dem. I really hope he tours the Us again, although I doubt they will.

Just because I have a different opinion as you in the manner Axl handled Chin Dem and NuGuns does not make me or anyone else less of a fan. I cannot speak for others but I come to this site daily in the hopes that something was going to happen. For a while it was to see if the album was coming, now it is because I want to see if they will tour.
