GN'R Have Their Reading Festival Set Cut Short
More news about Reading Festival.
Guns N' Roses had their Reading Festival headlining slot cut short after turning up on stage an hour late.
The US band, led by singer Axl Rose, started their performance at 10.30pm on Friday night (27 August).
Festival organisers say they were given an extra half hour to play.
A statement read: "Guns N' Roses wanted to 'extend' the new agreed curfew but were prevented from doing so in order to comply with the entertainment licence issued by Reading Council."
Following the delay, the American rock band were booed when they took to the stage at the Berkshire site.
Despite that they played a set including hits like Sweet Child o' Mine, Welcome To The Jungle and November Rain plus tracks from their latest album Chinese Democracy.

Guns N' Roses Have Plug Pulled After Reading Festival Gig
Guns N' Roses' Reading Festival set ended in chaos tonight (August 27), when the sound was cut after the band overran by more than an hour.
The band, led by Axl Rose, took to the stage over an hour after schedule, at 10:30pm (BST), to play their headline slot at the festival. Despite earlier warnings from festival organiser Melvin Benn that he would not tolerate the band playing past 11:30pm, they still managed to play the majority of their set until roughly midnight - when they walked offstage after playing 'Night Train'
However, as the band tried to return for an encore, the sound was cut. Led by Rose, they still tried to launch into 'Paradise City', though only the drums could be heard as all other instruments had been switched off. As the crowd started to sing the track, Rose tried to greet members of the audience while singing through a megaphone - watch fan footage of the incident on the right now.
The band continued in this way for roughly five minutes, before finally coming together on the stage to bow and walk off.

When Did Guns N' Roses Become So Fashionable?
It used to be that you'd never admit to liking Axl Rose's gang. But their appearance at this weekend's Reading and Leeds festival proves they stand alone as hard-rock hellraisers.

There was a time in the early 90s when nobody liked Guns N' Roses. Well, obviously some people did, on account of the millions of records they sold and hundreds of arenas they filled, but it was a bit like weeing in the shower; no one ever admitted to it.
So what changed? Perhaps it's the absence of St Cobain, Axl Rose's greatest sparring partner (sorry Slash), and the void created by the demise of the heavy-rock template which saw Nirvana demonstrate that the genre could be visceral and dangerous without having to write a song slagging off "immigrants and faggots".

When asked about his memories of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup and the group's eventual break-up, Slash said, "It was an awesome band. I'm very, very proud to have been part of that unit, of that group of people. It had a particular chemistry to it and a particular bunch of personalities that made it all work. Unfortunately, one of the guys just had no clue what that meant and screwed the whole thing up. [Laughs]"

Stuck In My Head: One In A Million
Guns N' Roses' most controversial song, 'One In A Million', is the main subject of Dk presents latest blog post.
After this song dropped on America like a two-megaton bomb of racist hatred and homophobic agitation, stories were required to explain its genesis and reason for being. The controversy over ‘One In A Million’ centered around two separate passages, one which used the derogatory term for African-Americans, and another that suggested “immigrants and faggots” were only in this country to spread disease and take it over.
People were appalled that Guns ‘N Roses lead singer W. Axl Rose would dare use such words and express such sentiments. In the court of public opinion, he was branded a racist and a homophobe, and forced to explain himself.
